Each dot is a measured sample. The colored curtain interpolates between adjacent accepted depths and neighboring profiles in space and time. It is not a scanned ocean volume.
Profiles hang below the float’s reported surface locations, not a reconstructed underwater path. Unfolding keeps each sample’s identity and depth, moving its column to its observation date.
Sources, quality & limits
Provider sourceCore Argo: R uses raw values; A/D use adjusted values and matching QC. Missing adjusted values never fall back to raw. QC 1 is shown by default. Gaps, rejected samples, and unusually separated cycles remain open.
The curtain uses primary CTD sampling records; secondary and near-surface schemes are kept out of this section. Metric depth uses latitude-aware TEOS-10 GSW z_from_p with zero dynamic height and sea-surface geopotential. Vertical scale is exaggerated. Temperature is in situ °C; practical salinity is dimensionless (PSU convention).
Argo DOI 10.17882/42182. Discovery uses the official GDAC weekly index for current locations, with actual observation times. Latest mode retrieves the selected float’s trailing year, refreshing hourly while open. Historical mode queries available observations in the selected dates. Argo profiles are intermittent, usually days apart. Explicit offline examples are labeled snapshots.
